A Family Tradition Since the 1970s

For more than half a century, the LaFratte name has meant one thing in Pittston, Pennsylvania: food made with love, served with pride, and shared with family. What started as a bustling Main Street restaurant has grown into one of the most trusted catering operations in Northeastern PA.

Where It All Began

The LaFratte Family Story

Dante “Chucky” and Carlene LaFratte opened their restaurant on Main Street in Pittston with a simple belief: every person who walked through the door was family. That philosophy turned a small neighborhood spot into a local institution. On any given Sunday morning, the restaurant would serve breakfast to over 300 people, the line stretching out onto the sidewalk.

Their son, Dante LaFratte, grew up in that kitchen. He started helping at just five years old, mopping floors alongside his father before school. By the time he was old enough to hold a sauté pan, he had already spent years watching, learning, and absorbing the rhythms of a working kitchen. Cooking was never a career choice for Dante. It was simply who he was.

As the years went on, the demand for LaFratte's food at weddings, parties, and community events grew beyond what the restaurant could handle. The family made the decision to close the restaurant and put their full energy into catering, bringing the same warmth and quality to celebrations across the region. Today, more than 50 years after Chucky and Carlene first opened their doors, the LaFratte name carries the same meaning it always has: honest food, generous portions, and a genuine love for feeding people.

The Heart of the Kitchen

Meet Chef Dante LaFratte

For Dante, cooking is personal. Every dish that leaves his kitchen is one he would proudly set down at his own family's table. He approaches each meal with the same care whether he's preparing a wedding reception for 400 guests or putting together a weeknight dinner for a neighbor.

That dedication has not gone unnoticed. The Times Leader named Dante “Best Chef” in Greater Pittston, and the Sunday Dispatch honored him as their 2021 Person of the Year. But if you ask Dante about those awards, he'll quickly change the subject back to the food.

Everyone deserves a nice meal, and I wouldn't serve a meal that I wouldn't serve to my own mother.

100 Meals a Day, Every Day

When the pandemic hit in 2020, Dante stepped up as Head Chef for Greater Pittston Meals on Wheels. While much of the world shut down, he fired up his kitchen and began preparing up to 100 meals every single day for homebound seniors and community members who had no other way to get a hot meal.

What started as a response to a crisis became a calling. Dante has committed to serving Meals on Wheels for the rest of his life. For him, there is no higher purpose than making sure nobody in his community goes hungry.

Church Dinners

Dante cooks regularly for St. Mary's Assumption Church and Our Lady of the Eucharist, preparing meals that bring parishioners together and raise funds for their congregations.

Greater Pittston Santa Squad

Every holiday season, Dante lends his time and talent to the Greater Pittston Santa Squad, helping ensure that families across the area can celebrate with a warm meal and the spirit of giving.

Pittston Area Football

The Pittston Area football team fuels up on LaFratte's cooking. Dante provides meals for the players because he believes that supporting local kids is one of the best investments you can make in a community.
